The evening of Tuesday, 30 November, was not only dedicated to the presentation of the new volume on the birth of USI: it was also a moment dedicated to those who have made and are making its history.

The cover picture is representative: the history of Università della Svizzera italiana has been made by many people, each contributing in their own precious way. For this reason, during the evening of the presentation of the book "L'Università della Svizzera italiana: nascita di un ateneo alla fine del secondo millennio" published by Dadò of Locarno, USI Rector Boas Erez called to the stage the most influential figures in the history of the University for a group photograph. Honorary members, politicians, academics and officials who, for the university project, were able to unite under the motto, recalled by a bookmark distributed to all, "Those who have a goal, will find a way" (taken from the speech of Federal Councillor Ruth Dreifuss at the First Dies academicus of Università della Svizzera italiana on 8 March 1997).

From left: Pietro Montorfani, Tina Salvadé, Samuele Cavadini, Marina Fraccaroli, Mauro Martinoni, Giorgio Noseda, Mirka Buffi, Mario Botta, Lorenza Noseda, Piero Martinoli, Sandro Rusconi, Manuele Bertoli, Giorgio Giudici, Marco Baggiolini, Albino Zgraggen, Renzo Respini, Mauro Baranzini, Roberto Badaracco and Boas Erez. Second row, centre: Mauro Dell’Ambrogio and Alessio Petralli.

In the background, some of the numerous other people who have contributed to the success of the university project in the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland.
